Footy season is rolling back around, which means three things: dodgy early-season form, arguments about the umps, and footy tipping comps firing up in pubs all over Australia. Naturally, we’re getting in on the action.
At Hop Nation we reckon everyone’s an expert after two pints and a highlights reel, so this is your chance to prove it.
Signing up is dead easy – head into the Footscray taproom, throw down your $50 entry fee, and we’ll sort the rest. You’ll even get a free pot straight up to celebrate and from there it’s all about getting your tips in each week, talking smack across the bar, and watching the ladder like your reputation depends on it.
And yes – there’s proper prizes. Cash for the big dogs at the end of the season, plus Hop Nation goodies getting flung around throughout the year to keep things interesting. We’re even giving you Opening Round as a warm-up so you can “assess the talent” before locking in your genius picks.

If there is a tie at the end of the season, we will use the finals as a knockout competition. it will work the same as the regular season, but you will have to pick the margins as well.
To keep it fair and transparent, the ladder will be updated weekly and posted online so everyone can track who’s a footy oracle and who should probably stick to schooners. We’ll also send regular email updates to all participants so you never miss a beat.
Forget to put your tips in? We’ve got you – sort of. If no tips are submitted, you’ll automatically be given the home team for each game you miss. Sometimes a blessing, sometimes an absolute stitch-up.
So if you reckon you know your footy better than your mates (or you’re just in it for the free beers and bragging rights), get down to the taproom and lock in a spot. Worst case, you’re wrong all year and still drank well doing it.
